Texas Furious Mar 30, 2021 // Nostalgia FC Updates // editorOne of the most anticipated independent drag racing events planned for all of 2021 played to an appreciative base of fans at the fabled Texas Motorplex last weekend.
Event organizer Chris Graves, spearheaded the impressive race effort – for the inaugural “Texas Motorplex-edition” Funny Car Chaos.
The race featured amazingly — no less then 68 Funny Cars on the premises – all of who competed within four different levels of 1/8th mile eliminations – some nitro and some alcohol.
In addition the dates included a batch of AA/FA class cars, (from the area’s popular stable Outlaw Fuel Altered Association) which also presented a 16-car field.
Adding to all that were some 50+ “gassers” bringing to the facility an event total car count of over 200 machines.
The four classes for Funny Cars featured wins by Kyle Smith (A Field), Doug Schneider (B field), Bill Bernard (C Field) and Tom Furches (D Field). Aaron Morrow drove the “Nitro Relapse” machine owned by Terry Darby to the event’s Fuel Altered title.
The Funny Car Chaos weekend did include a number of high-powered exhibition runs too. But for sure it was the AA/FA cars owned by NHRA Pro Racers Tim Wilkerson and Kebin Kinsley, stealing those headlines. Racing to the 1/4 mile stripe — they produced the quickest and fastest runs in AA/FA history!
“This event had it all,” remarked a gratified Chris Graves, a very renowned drag racing media member. “After months of planning and hundreds of hours invested by FCC and Texas Motorplex staff, I am very pleased with the end result.”
“We held the biggest Funny Car race in decades, saw fuel altered world records shattered and attracted racers and fans from coast to coast. It was one of those weekends that you had to ‘be there’ to absorb the vibe in the pits, see cars you’ve never seen before, experience the fun and excitement that Funny Car Chaos brings to the table at our events. I’d like to first thank the entire staff at the Texas Motorplex for their passionate effort in making this happen. But also would like to thank all the Funny Car Chaos and Outlaw Fuel Altered racers, marketing partners, crew members and fans for supporting grassroots drag racing!”
