Some Hometown Hustle! Jul 19, 2024 // Nostalgia FC Updates // editor2024’s edition Rocky Mountain Nationals is highlighted by a solid victory for home-based racer Tim Boychuk.
Boychuk, who is no stranger to victory lane at the RAD Torque Racing facility located just south of Edmonton, won the July 14th event concluding round — racing his quick and consistent “Happy Hour” ’69 Chevy Camaro.
Tim prevailed over five other cars entered in competition for the weekend’s “Chicago Style Shootout” Nitro Nostalgia FC title.
Boychuk earned his final round spot after recording back-to-back round win lights over Nathan Sitko and David Brant to face off against Jason Bussey (also from Alberta) in the final round.
Tim moved first and that superior starting line RT proved to be the difference as his 4.917 secs held off Bussey’s quicker 4.877 secs – in the 1000 ft format race. Bussey’s final round ET was the quickest of the event.
“Coming into Edmonton we knew we were the underdog — had a mindset of just getting the car down the track,” said Tim Boychuk. “We had been having issues the last three races. We started out as a bracket car with runs of 5.05, 5.04 & 5.05 secs. We went out and persevered and came out with a win. We were happy to have won at home in front of our family, friends and sponsors.”
Since coming on the scene in 2012 at Edmonton, Tim was in the finals 5 times in 3 classes and won 3 times – with his Rocky Mountain Nationals titles coming in 2016, 2018 and now 2024.
NNFC class racing at Edmonton did include a new participant with 23-year old Dylan Bussey, son of nitro funny car driver Jason Bussey making five singles. In fact both of Jason’s two sons, Donavin and Dylan, are in the wheelhouse for completing their nitro funny car license – as that now rapid developing “RiderZ Racing” team unfolds for the the future.
