Winning Ways – Reinforcement! Mar 09, 2022 // Nostalgia FC Updates // editorNitro Nostalgia Funny Car racer Bobby Cottrell continued his winning tendencies during last weekend’s 64th edition Good Vibrations Motorsports “March Meet” – held at Auto Club Famoso Drag Strip near Bakersfield CA.
Cottrell, who is based from Whitter CA., collected his 5th career event win since 2018 at the legendary track (3 March Meet/2 CHRR titles) when he singled to defeat first time finalist Geoff Monise (Buena Park CA) who shut off in the final round.
Racing the potent Austin & O’Brien Bardahl Camaro — Bobby Cottrell won for the 5X in his career at Bakersfield Racing the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage circuit’s very formidable Austin & O’Brien Bardahl-sponsored Chevy Camaro, Bobby won the event from the #3 position. He carded a best of 5.660 secs during qualifying runs and then went on to defeat John Weaver, Dan Horan and Kris Krabill in elimination rounds.
There was a total of 23 Funny Cars that made qualifying attempts at this year’s March Meet event. 15/16 of those cars ran in the 5-secs zone with the bump ending up being 6.014 secs.
3rd generation family racer Drew Austin – (Tacoma WA) qualified #1 setting low ET of the event at 5.592 secs. Versatile driver Cory Lee notched top speed of the event at 262.28 mph in the “Pedaler” ’79 Charger bodied car. Tim Boychuk was the only Canadian to run in the NFC class. The popular Edmonton native racer qualified #12 at 5.835 secs but lost out to Geoff Monise in round one. …and check this out! That is non-other then Cory McClenathan racing his new Nitro Nostalgia Camaro FC. The famous NHRA racer just missed qualifying at his first race with a best of 6.076 secs. Posted by Bruce Biegler
