A Canadian Record Run! Aug 10, 2017 // Nostalgia FC Updates // editorCanadian Nitro Nostalgia Funny Car class history was made last weekend during the Mopar Canadian Nationals held at Grand Bend Motorplex.
Part of that 18th annual event featured a booked in 4-car program of Nitro Nostalgia Funny Cars which drew in some serious circuit hitters from the USA, including Mike McIntire Jr., Paul Romine, Gary Kraus and Greg Jacobsyer.
All those racers produced some highly impressive times and speeds on the very well prepped race track surface.
Veteran Romine (from Indiana) qualified his Mustang #1 with a 5.596 at 257.28 mph and advanced to the final only to be stopped by McIntire Jr who unloaded the quickest and fastest time ever for the class seen on Canadian soil — an astounding, 5.520 secs and 259.44 mph, to win.
That swift run by McIntire Jr.’s “McAttack” ’70 Camaro, in fact exceeded the 5.530 secs at 259.14 mph record set by Bobby Cottrell in Bucky Austin’s car at Mission Raceway in BC just two weeks ago.
