{"id":3571,"date":"2019-04-15T19:25:24","date_gmt":"2019-04-15T19:25:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/?p=3571"},"modified":"2019-04-16T14:15:47","modified_gmt":"2019-04-16T14:15:47","slug":"top-of-the-game-at-tuscon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/?p=3571","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Top of the Game&#8221; at Tuscon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Canada\u2019s premier Nitro Nostalgia Funny Car team earns a nice early season score down in Arizona.<\/p>\n<p>The extremely formidable Hodgson\/Papirnick Pacemaker Racing team, who were the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series champions for 2017, won the season opening race for the Good Vibrations UNFC Championship Series, held during Tuscon Dragway\u2019s Reunion event on April 13th.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/?attachment_id=3566\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3566\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3566\" src=\"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Tuscon-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"267\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>With driver Ryan Hodgson at the wheel and with wily Bob Papirnick (from Vancouver) tuning, the Edmonton-based camp were dominating while winning\u00a0that. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>After they qualified #1 with a 5.776 @ 251.00 mph (low ET and high MPH<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>of the event), they advanced to the championship round to face off in a marquee pairing \u2014 versus no other then 2018 defending NHRA Heritage Series World Champion Bobby Cottrell.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3569\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/?attachment_id=3569\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3569\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3569\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3569\" src=\"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Tuscon-Ryan2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"674\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3569\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ryan Hodgson<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In that race Ryan carded a winning 5.844 secs at 242.54 mph to defeat Cottrell\u2019s slowing 6.380 secs @ 172.87 mph in the\u00a0Austin &amp; O\u2019Brien Bardahl-sponsored Camaro.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe day was cold the tires hot,\u00a0my mind was full, we\u00a0raced a lot,\u201d said Ryan rather poetically.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cThe motor ran strong &#8212; and in\u00a0the end &#8212; our win light was on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeriously \u2014 the track was very hard to get down,\u201d he added.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u201cIn the final our car broke loose three times around a thousand feet.
