{"id":3335,"date":"2018-10-25T14:17:52","date_gmt":"2018-10-25T14:17:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/?p=3335"},"modified":"2018-10-25T16:53:35","modified_gmt":"2018-10-25T16:53:35","slug":"final-funny-car-ferocity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/?p=3335","title":{"rendered":"Final Funny Car Ferocity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oceanusresources.ca\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2867\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2867\" src=\"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/oceanus_150x70.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"70\" \/><\/a>The final event of the season \u2014 NHRA\u2019s 2018 California Hot Rod Reunion\u00ae presented by Automobile Club of Southern California &#8211; has determined the 2018 World Champion for that circuit\u2019s highly popular and competitive Nitro Nostalgia Funny Car division.<\/p>\n<p>Bobby Cottrell, driver of highly formidable Pacific NW based and Bardhal-presented Chevy Camaro owned and campaigned by Bucky Austin and Mike O\u2019Brien \u2014 clinched the 2018 NHRA Hot Rod Heritage points championship when he qualified #7 for that ferocious eliminator.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3331\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/?attachment_id=3331\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3331\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3331\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3331\" src=\"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/BF-Cottrell.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"311\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3331\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(Bobby Cottrell &#8211; driving the highly formidable Austin &amp; O&#8217;Brien Camaro clinched the 2018 NHRA Hot Rod Heritage FC World Championship)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>But when things wrapped up on Sunday evening \u2014 it was an event repeat champion (2016 race winner) Jason Rupert, who stood above.<\/p>\n<p>Rupert, from Yorba Linda CA drove his super popular (Littlefield &amp; Rupert) US Air Force Thunderbirds themed Chevy Camaro to victory over a truly feisty field of fuel floppers. In the final round he truly did save his best effort for the last when his low ET and top speed of the event prevailed \u2014 5.634 secs at 259.51 mph to defeat opponent Rian Konno who ran 5.855 secs at 241.84 mph.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3327\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/?attachment_id=3327\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3327\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3327\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3327\" src=\"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/BF-Rupert.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"361\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3327\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(Jason Rupert emerged a convincing winner during the final NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series event of the season)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe car ran so good last night (in the first round of eliminations), I was hoping that would carry over to Sunday,\u201d said Rupert. \u201cI go to every race with the intention of winning but everyone else does too. We had a lot of weird stuff happens in the pits but my guys persevered. They do a great job.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3333\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/?attachment_id=3333\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3333\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3333\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3333\" src=\"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/BF-Konno.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"331\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3333\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(Rian Konno wheeled the very legendary looking Kazanjian-Lemon-Konno \u00a0&#8217;73 Mustang to a runner-up finish)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Rupert had qualified for the event in the #6 slot after running a 5.733 secs. Then during eliminations he took the measure of Tony Jurado, Matt Bynum and Bobby Cottrell.<\/p>\n<p>As is always the case at Bakersfield \u2014 the nitro Nostalgia Funny Car class was worth the cost of admission alone.
