{"id":2766,"date":"2017-10-27T18:41:27","date_gmt":"2017-10-27T18:41:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/?p=2766"},"modified":"2017-10-30T23:52:16","modified_gmt":"2017-10-30T23:52:16","slug":"a-chrr-funny-car-feast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/?p=2766","title":{"rendered":"Funny Car Feast!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Funny Car fans attending the final season round for NHRA\u2019s thriving co-production Hot Rod Heritage Drag Racing Series got quite a treat during the 2017 California Hot Rod Reunion event.<\/p>\n<p>The iconic event, which was hosted for the 26th time at fabled Auto Club Famoso Raceway, located just north of Bakersfield CA., featured a dream field on nitro-burning nostalgia cars.<\/p>\n<p>A particularly healthy car count total of 30 machines attempted qualifying laps for that category and after three sessions they did produce the quickest 16-car field in AA\/FC class history at a 5.830 secs bump.<\/p>\n<p>The event was led from start to finish by California\u2019s Bobby Cottrell, who is a new designated driver this year for Bucky Austin\u2019s very formidable Bardahl\/Buckey\u2019s Auto Centre 1969 Camaro based from Washington state.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2762\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/NFFC-BF-Cottrell.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2762\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2762\" src=\"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/NFFC-BF-Cottrell.jpg\" alt=\"(Driving for team owner Bucky Austin - Bobby Cottrell lead start to finish for the 2017 CHRR AA\/FC event title)\" width=\"500\" height=\"331\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2762\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(Driving for team owner Bucky Austin &#8211; Bobby Cottrell lead start to finish for the 2017 CHRR AA\/FC event title)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Cottrell, qualified #1 with a 5.563 secs and then rattled off low ET of the event (at a record quick 5.528 secs!) &#8211; while proceeding past the field during eliminations &#8211; to ultimately win decisively. In the final round Bobby beat another Chevy Camaro, a \u201970 model driven by Florida\u2019s Matt Bynum, for the title winning a 5.670 secs 253.61 mph to 5.744 secs 258.62 mph decision.<\/p>\n<p>Bynum, who had qualified 3rd, was credited with a 263.05 mph terminal speed during eliminations &#8211; another record for the AA\/FC category.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a busy weekend I\u2019m so thankful for my crew,\u201d said Cottrell, who is from Whittier, CA. \u201cWe did hurt some parts and every single round we had to change stuff \u2014 my crew worked their tails off.
