Jack Beckman scored a very emotional 3rd career win in the Traxxas Funny Car Shootout event held during the NHRA\u2019s Chevrolet Performance US Nationals.<\/p>\n

Don Schumacher Racing has won at least one Traxxas Nitro Shootout title since the event’s inception in 2012, and no one has won the $100,000 bonus for DSR more than Jack Beckman.<\/p>\n

Infinite Hero Dodge Charger R\/T Powered by Pennzoil Funny Car won an all-star title for the fourth time including three in the Traxxas Shootout Funny Car event, on Sunday when he defeated Robert Hight of John Force Racing in the final round.<\/p>\n

“Just getting into the Shootout is incredibly difficult,” Beckman said. “There are a litany of ways you can get into the Shootout but only one way to get the trophy: You have to beat three of the baddest cars on the planet in one day. There were no gimmes.”<\/p>\n

Beckman defeated teammate Tommy Johnson Jr., who drives Chandler’s Make-A-Wish Dodge, in the first round then won a tire-smoking race against teammate Ron Capps before eliminating Hight.<\/p>\n

And the victory led by crew chiefs Dean Antonelli, John Medlen and Neal Strausbaugh had added meaning for DSR as it marked the first time one of Terry’s Funny Cars, which now are funded by her husband Doug Chandler, left a race with a trophy since she passed away on July 4.<\/p>\n

“This one was for Terry,” said Antonelli, who joined with hundreds of friends for a “celebration of life” service for Terry late Friday afternoon at the track. Beckman noted the last time the Infinite Hero team won was at Norwalk, Ohio, about 10 days before she lost her short but valiant battle with cancer.<\/p>\n

“Norwalk was the last race one of her two cars won a trophy and she was still alive,” he said. “This is a good way to bookend her physical time with us. I’m still having trouble accepting we won’t see her at the track, but she will always be with us.”<\/p>\n

DSR has won four of six Shootouts in Top Fuel and three of six in Funny Car with Beckman claiming the honor each time in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series specialty event.<\/p>\n
