{"id":2513,"date":"2017-05-10T13:40:03","date_gmt":"2017-05-10T13:40:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/?p=2513"},"modified":"2017-05-10T13:40:30","modified_gmt":"2017-05-10T13:40:30","slug":"dro-aafc-challenge-ready-for-opener","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/?p=2513","title":{"rendered":"DRO AA\/FC Challenge Series Ready for Opener"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The DragRacingOnline.com AA Funny Car Challenge will make its first appearance at San Antonio Raceway on May 19-20.<\/p>\n<p>After a one-year hiatus, the drag racing series for nitro Funny Cars returns for its eighth season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the IHRA walking away from their nostalgia Funny Car program this year, we didn\u2019t want these racers to be without a place to complete,\u201d said DRO AA\/FC Challenge series administrator, Jeff Burk, also editor of DragRacingOnline.com. \u201cSo, we\u2019re kind of putting the band back together and taking it on the road.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cars already on the entry list include Paul Romine from Indianapolis in his \u201cMan O\u2019 War\u201d Mustang, the champion of the series in the first two seasons, 2009 and 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Dallas driver John Hale, the 2011 and 2012 series champion, will be competing in his \u201cOne Bad Texan\u201d Camaro this season. Appropriately, Hale\u2019s company, Best of Texas Barbeque Sauce, is the presenting sponsor of the San Antonio event.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AC_JohnHale-OneBadTexan-AAFC-e1494423495766.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2512\" src=\"https:\/\/nitrofccanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AC_JohnHale-OneBadTexan-AAFC-e1494423495766.jpg\" alt=\"AC_JohnHale-OneBadTexan-AAFC\" width=\"500\" height=\"273\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Shawn Bowen, the 2013-14-15 series champion, is no longer racing, but his championship-winning car was purchased by Fred Farndon of Oklahoma and has been renamed \u201cPlay It Loud.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of special note at the San Antonio race will be a tribute to Texan Raymond Beadle, owner of the famous \u201cBlue Max\u201d car. Fellow Texan Ronnie Young will be at the controls of the latest version of the iconic car.<\/p>\n<p>Troy Ray of Kentucky will bring his \u201cWild Side\u201d Dodge Charger to the competition. New cars are coming for Vic Tiffin from Ohio in the \u201cGold Digger\u201d Mustang and veteran racer Larry Gould of Illinois in his famous Ford cammer-powered EXP.<\/p>\n<p>There is no entry fee for racers and up to five crewmembers with the winner getting $5,000 and runner-up $3,750. Semifinalists will receive $2,500 and first-round losers $1,750.<\/p>\n<p>Nitromethane and header flames at night coming from 250+ mph cars is an experience that can\u2019t be missed! Qualifying for the DRO AA\/FC Challenge will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, May 19, with elimination rounds at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
