Tasca III is Two for Two! Jun 25, 2019 // NHRA Event FC Results // editorBob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Mustang Funny Car team won their second NHRA Mello Yello Series race in a row – this time in Ford’s backyard.
The NHRA race in Norwalk, Ohio is just two hours away from Ford Motor Company World Headquarters in Dearborn, Mich. It was the perfect time for Tasca to go to back-to-back final rounds for the first time in his Funny Car career. Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team earned the new Ford Mustang Funny Car its first win seven days ago in Bristol, TN.
“I’ve worked seven years to get to this place,” said Tasca, who broke a seven-year drought with his win at Bristol Dragway. “There were days I never thought I’d get back here. This sport can take everything from you. It can tear your heart out. Everyone told me to never give up and I never gave up, and I thank the people like the fans and Ford employees who never gave up on me. I dreamed of being able to give them the Ford Mustang Funny Car we have right now.”
Tasca had support at the track from Ford Customer Service Division (FCSD) and Ford Performance. With the wins, he’s moved up three spots in the championship points to seventh.
“We’re over the moon,” said Jasmine Pendleton, Marketing Manager, Ford Customer Service Division. “He’s in his stride. You can’t even quantify how valuable it is to have someone like Bob as a spokesperson for FCSD and Ford. He’s not just a driver. He’s a Ford dealer and he gets us. He knows what we’re trying to do in NHRA. He understands our need to get automotive technicians, he knows this is an effective way to reach our goals and he’s proven it. He’s proven it two weeks in a row.”
Tasca clocked a 4.383-second run at 245.09 mph to defeat Jack Beckman in the final round — after entering eliminations for the sixth qualified position. He also beat Matt Hagan, Paul Lee and John Force while running his NHRA event winning streak to an 8-0 record over the past two races.
Through his role as team owner and driver, Tasca works to help Ford attract and retain automotive technicians by talking to students who attend NHRA’s YES (Youth and Education Services) programs at the track.
Tasca debuted the new body at the beginning of the 2019 NHRA season. It was the first new body for Ford in a decade and was the first Ford racecar to skip the full-size prototype phase of development, resulting in a process that had significant cost reduction implications for both road and race vehicle design.
The Tasca Racing team will now seek a “natural hat trick” when they head to Epping, N.H. for the series’ next race July 5-7 – the NHRA New England Nationals — which is home territory for the Rhode Island based driver.
